Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is a quaint, nearly British sounding town populated by about 5,000 souls, all of who are employed by the tourist industry in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea (which, coincidentally, is the only industry in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea). As you might imagine, its quaintness is the main weapon the denizens of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea use to ensnare visitors. Sadly, almost all are powerless against its charms, because Lauderdale-by-the-Sea really does have a lot to offer visitors, particularly if they are diving enthusiasts.

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is a land of oversized brick sidewalks, quaint streetlamps, and lush landscaping. There are so many things to do (and the town itself is so small), that it is nearly impossible to pick one to highlight. Instead, I feel it is more germane to treat Lauderdale-by-the-Sea as a single destination with many facets.

For starters, there are many long-term lodging opportunities, and Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is a popular destination for tourists who stay the winter. This type of stay has many benefits. Most notably, it isn’t cold – but it also allows you to really explore the natural wonders surrounding Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. Even if you don’t want to stay the whole winter, the natural sights of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea are a good place to start. The reefs just 100 yards from shore are perfect for either snorkeling or SCUBA diving, and are the reason that Lauderdale-by-the-Sea was named “The Diving Capitol of South Florida” in 1997. The beaches also offer great swimming, sunbathing, and fishing opportunities. Just a little ways from the water’s edge, you will find Pelican Square, which has sitting areas under palms near a very dramatic, award-winning sculpture of pelicans.

In the town itself, you can find the usual assortment of boutique shops and restaurants, but you can also find quite a few small museums specializing in history, art, and the archeology of the region. After you’re done with that, try The Blue Moon Fish Company for dinner – it’s quite good.

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is a perfect place to get away when you need a bit of a break. Naturally, a Millenium Limo would only enhance the experience – there’s no better way to get away than in a limo or other luxury vehicle. Happy snorkeling!

Dubai is a melting pot of the East and the West and the strategic location of the emirate feeds into that. A major portion of the population of Dubai is constituted of expatriates. There are a number of factors that make Dubai a social hub of the world:

• The emergence of Dubai as a tourist and holiday destination. The growth of real estate and entertainment industry are responsible for the same.

• Employment and business opportunities galore in the emirate and the tax-free status are sure shot crowd pullers.

• There are free zones in Dubai that attract companies from all over the world into opening branch offices in Dubai.

• Regular shopping, cultural and sports events draw tourists and businessmen from around the globe, making Dubai a lucrative place to be, for all and sundry.

In a nutshell, Dubai is a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-religious reality. Consequently, the social life along with entertainment and leisure activities in Dubai are reflective of the same.

Let's start with dining options. Dubai has a plethora of hotels, restaurants, bars and clubs all over the city. The eating joints offer regional cuisine from almost all parts of the world and to top it all, there is something to suit every pocket. When it comes to drinking, there are strict laws regarding license and code of conduct in place.

Dubai is renowned to be a shoppers' dream come true. There are supermarkets and shopping malls where popular and not so popular names vie for the customer's attention. The local markets at Bastakiya, gold souq and spices souq are something everyone visiting Dubai should check out as well.

The latest from the world of cinema is abuzz in theatres in Dubai. The only pointer there is that anti-Islamic and nude content is taken out before screening. And for the expatriate interest, there are groups and clubs suiting almost every interest in addition to the frequent national and international cultural fests in the city.

Dubai is surely reflective of "globalized" reality of our world today, and is going to be the destination of the future indeed.

What is a backpack? Well, according to the Collins English Dictionary, one of its definition is, "a rucksack". A rucksack, what is a rucksack? I'm glad you ask. A rucksack is a large bag, usually having two straps, carried on the back and often used by climbers, campers, etc. It is also called: backpack.

Backpack, rucksack, knapsack and haversack, depending on which part of the world you're in, you'll hear one of these names, but they all referring to the same item, the same product.

The haversack can be traced to the year eighteen fifty five (1855) and especially during the time of war. Knapsacks are never out of season and throughout the years, instead of disappearing, they have become more and more popular with added styles and benefits.

The beauty of a backpack is its durability, its versatility, its design, its variety and its features.

(1) The durability of the Haversacks.

Haversacks are usually made from leather, nylon (water resistant nylon as well), polyester, fustian, whisper fleece, kordura and vinyl. In the pass as well as the present, soldiers have been using haversacks on their missions. Children, day in and day out have been forcing them into lockers, dropping them on the play ground and jogging them up and down as they run.

(2) The versatility of the Rucksack.

A rucksack can be taken practically anywhere and I do mean anywhere. It can be used for carrying school supplies, camping necessities and hiking gears. It is perfect for a trip to the store and astronauts have been using it for carrying food into outer space.

(3) The design of the Knapsack.

The knapsack is usually designed as top loaders and front loaders. The top loader is packed from the top of the bag and is great for cross country outings because of its large storage capacity. As for the front loaders, these are accessible from the front, that is, quick and easy access to your gear. There are day packs and there are expedition packs. The day pack is designed for short outings, such as a day of hiking and the expedition pack, like its name suggests, is suitable for cross country camping.

(4) The variety of the Backpack

Even though it is more heighten during the "back to school" periods, the backpack can be found in abundance throughout the year. There is a backpack for carrying laptops, cameras, volleyballs and even skateboards and that's not all, there are backpacks for carrying a baby car seat or a booster seat.

(5) The features of the Backpack

The backpack have loads of practical and attractive features. There are waist and shoulder support straps (padded with foam), multiple loading compartments, hydro-pack systems, front, side and bottom pockets, zippers, laces to reinforce the zippers, multicolour and single colour. There are long backpacks and short backpacks, there are big backpacks and small backpacks. There are backpacks with wheels and backpacks without. There are backpacks specially designed with the curve of the body in mind and recently one have been publicize that was designed with the storage and playing of the ipod (while in the bag) in mind.

The backpack is never out of style, it is strong, versatile, practically designed, the variety is numerous and its features helps to make a trip pleasurable. After finding the perfect backpack for one's needs, it can become a travel companion that will be hard to part with.

Kalgoorlie is an oasis in the outback desert of Western Australia. Located less than a days drive from Perth, it is prettiest in spring, with amazing displays of wildflowers the perfect backdrop as you zip past the colourful landscapes in your rental car. You will need to set aside enough time to explore and enjoy the beauty of this region.

Also known as the golden outback, there are a number of old mine shafts still open to tourists here, with gold panning always a popular activity. There are also a number of ghost mining towns within driving distance giving travellers a new respect for the old miners of the past.

There is plenty to do within Kalgoorlie, which has is now often referred to as Kalgoorlie-Boulder, with the two cities merging together. The Kalgoorlie Goldfields Visitor Centre has information on all the best places to see in the area, some being The Museum of the Goldfields featuring exhibits, prized gold nuggets and relics from the past. For some family fun, the Kurrawang Emu Farm is worth a visit as is the Miners Hall of Fame promising a memorable step back in time.

A driving holiday to visit Kalgoorlie is a fantastic idea for so many reasons. There are all ranges of accommodation to choose from, with bed and breakfast, motels and excellent camping sites in Kalgoorlie and Boulder. With many attractions also outside of the city you have the freedom to spend as much time as you like exploring this remote land.

Outside the city is the Darling Range, where the woodlands beckon you on to take a closer look at the pretty wildflowers that transform the normally desolate landscape into a blanket of colour. The emblem of the state is the Kangaroo Paw, its colours dominating this area, and wattles, daisies and everlastings some of the variety of flowers seen for at least five months of the year. There are enjoyable bushwalks, and you will more than likely spot a kangaroo or small marsupial in between the trees.

Why not stay on a farm or cattle station for a few days? The region surrounding Kalgoorlie is as outback as it gets, with plenty of friendly locals who are waiting to boast about the history of the area, and enjoy a meal together. Children will love the animals and a chance to sleep under the long stretch of stars rarely visible in the city.

Not only are there pretty wildflowers at every turn, but vast salt lakes and large granite rock formations adding to the intrigue of the land. You can take a day trip down to beautiful Esperance on the coast along the Goldfields Highway, and drive along to coast to experience the wilderness of the Great Australian Bight.

Esperance is a popular tourist spot, with white beaches, endless rugged coastline and humpback whales often spotted during their long migration. If you stay a bit longer it is an ideal base to visit the Nullabor Plane, located to the east. Its wild, vast landscapes seem to encapsulate everything you could imagine in heart of Australian outback.

Kalgoorlie is remote and steeped in history, known for its cattle driving, gold mines and wild terrain. Your visit here will bring you face to face with the Australian outback at its best, and a wealth of colour almost indescribable during wildflower season. You will need to come prepared to venture out further into the remoteness of the outback, as you explore a part of the world that may be out of the way but certainly a destination in itself.

When I was a freshman in college, my first car was a 1973 Dodge Swinger. Stop laughing! When I first bought the car it was quite sad looking. But hey, it was all I could afford for $700. I decided to save up enough money from my summer job and give my ‘swinger’ a swinging look. So I saved, and saved every nickel and dime for months.

When I had enough money I first had the body of the car stripped, putty applied to fill in the rust holes and then finally sanded down before it would get a new paint job.

I didn’t have enough money for the paint job so I saved for another 3 months. I remember the day I took my car to Earl Scheib. If you’re from Chicago you’ve seen Earl on TV telling you how, “I can paint any car, any car, for $99.95*.” (spoken with a southern accent) When I took my car in to paint, it turned out to be quite a bit more than Earl and stated in his commercial; but that’s a whole other story.

(Note to reader: The most dangerous symbol when buying is the dreaded “*”. Read the fine print. The Devil is always in the details.)

Anyhow, the fateful day arrived when I went to pick up my car. Man, I was one happy guy. When I saw the guy pull up with my car, I couldn’t believe how good it looked. For the first time I actually wanted people to see me driving it. I chose a gold, metallic paint that made the car sparkle when the sun hit it. What made this moment even more exciting was the fact that my girlfriend was arriving from New York the next day. I couldn’t wait to pick her up in my brand, new ride.

That following day I picked her up from the airport and she was, from what I could tell, mildly impressed, “Nice paint job. Looks nice.” she commented. We got in and started driving back to Chicago…so I thought. I was so caught up in our conversation that instead of driving towards Chicago I was actually going the other way, away from the city. I wouldn’t find this out til later.

As we were driving and talking, I began to hear a slight sound that resembled a light knock. I thought for sure it was probably highway road noise. So, I ignored it and we kept talking.

About 15 to 20 minutes later the knocking seemed to pick up a little speed and became a little louder. Nonetheless, I ignored it and we kept talking.

Another 10 or so minutes past and the sound began to crescendo into a jack-hammering noise that could no longer be ignored. It grew louder, louder, louder with every second until suddenly a thunderous ‘BOOM!’ came from the engine. The sound was by followed by thick, black smoke billowing (think oil well burning to get a visual) from the under the hood which began to obscure my vision. I quickly pulled over, got out and popped the hood. As I raised the hood, a blast of black smoke smacked me in the face (I think we would all agree that black smoke is not a good sign in any situation).

I could tell I was in deep doo-doo. But for some reason I was so angry that the gravity of my situation still didn’t sink in. I remember climbing half way up the highway hill, sitting down and staring down at my car as it poured smoke into the air. My girlfriend tried to comfort me, but you know how we men are, it’s moments like these that “It’ll be OK” statements just fuel a man’s anger. I wanted to run down, open the car trunk, take out the crowbar and finish off my own car; a mercy killing if you will. My girlfriend quickly talked me out of that notion.

We walked to the nearest gas station where I was able to call my friend Juan to come pick us up. Juan was a pal who lived upstairs from me. Even though he had an exam the next day (we went to the same college), he agreed to come get us right away. I told him we were somewhere between the airport and the city.

More than two hours past before Juan showed up. As he got out of the car, somewhat annoyed, he asked, “Do you know where you’re at?” I replied by telling him that we were probably halfway to Chicago. He said, “No, you’re halfway to Wisconsin. You’re no where near Chicago.” At that moment I realized I had been driving the wrong way. But wait, it gets better…I mean worse.

We had the gas station attendant tow the car to station and hold it for me to pick up the next day. I agreed to drive the car so Juan could study in the back seat. We dropped off my girlfriend and began the drive to my house. As I was driving, after 15 minutes or so, the car wouldn’t accelerate. It was slowing down. I kept pressing the gas pedal with no luck. I looked at the gas gauge and it was registering almost a quarter of a tank. I again pulled over to the side of the highway. This time it was Juan and I staring at the car trying to figure out what was going on.

We made our way to the nearest gas station, and with no one to call, we decided to have it towed home. The tow truck arrived and hoisted the car up and we jumped in. After several minutes on the highway, I heard an abrupt letting of air, “Pfisssssss”. It sounded like the air-break noise trucks often make when stopping. I assumed it was one of the other trucks on the road so I ignored it. Juan dismissed it also and returned to his studying.

As we got off the highway ramp near home, I again heard a loud “Pfisssss”, but this time there were no trucks nearby. After turning onto our street, the tow truck driver maneuvered Juan’s car into a safe parking spot and then began to lower the front end of the car. As he was doing this, I noticed that, not one, but both of his right-rear tires were completely flat. This explains the sound I heard, twice!

I couldn’t believe my run of bad luck this day. First my car dies a roadside death. Next, Juan’s car dies on the side of the road. And now, the tow driver has two flats on one side. And to make things worse for the tow-truck driver was the fact that he didn’t have a spare. Now he had to call in “his friend” to come bail him friend. I was ready to crawl into bed and end this day.

The next day my brother drove out to pick up the Swinger. After all the money I invested, I wanted nothing to do with the car. When my brother returned he told me what the problem was and what happened.

Ready?!

I had forgotten to put oil in the car. Yes, oil! The liquid equivalent of human blood for a car. With no oil, the car blew a rod and completely damaged the engine. My Swinger was dead.

My brother stared at me and kept asking this question, “How could you forget to put oil in the car?”

“I don’t know!” I replied over and over again.

(Mental Intermission: At this point you must be thinking, “Wow, that was dumb.” Now you know that you’re not alone when it comes to making ‘dumb’ mistake. So stop beating yourself up for past mistakes…stuff happens!)

But deep down inside I knew why I forgot. I was so caught up in trying to make my car look good, that over the months I had completely ignored taking care of the engine. I was so focused on making it look good that I didn’t give thought to how it was ‘running’. My vanity killed my car.

In life I wonder if we don’t do the same the same thing. We try so hard to impress others that we forget to take care of the basics. Too often we work the body but ignore the internal engine we have, our brain.

I spent hundreds of dollars on getting my car painted, but I didn’t take the time to spend $2 on a quart of oil that would’ve kept my car running.

We spend thousands of dollars on cars, clothes and other material objects, but we won’t spend $15 to buy a book on how to improve our life.

We’ll spend countless hours at the gym trying to achieve the ideal weight or shape, but won’t take 20 minutes a day, or even a month to learn something new.

When I think back and visualize my beautiful gold, metallic Dodge Swinger stranded with black smoke pouring out of the engine block, I’m reminded that with cars and life, “All that glitters is not gold”.

Remember, work the body, but most importantly, work the mind, your internal engine of success and prosperity. Don’t let vanity kill your dream.

In 1999, I decided to live a year in the city of Chita, Russia. For those not in the know, Chita is a city in Siberia.

History

The City of Chita is a the administrative center of the Chita Oblast, which is similar to a state. It is located smack dab in the middle of Siberia and is about 500 miles east of Lake Baikal.

From the 1930’s through the end of communism, Chita was a closed city. During this period, foreigners were prohibited from traveling to Chita as were many Russians. The basis for the closing of the city was apparently its proximity to China and military installations.

In some circles, Chita is known as the City of Exiles because prominent intellectuals starting with the “Decembrist” were exiled to the city after failed uprisings in 1825. Despite this informal name, the arrival of the Decembrists was a boon for the city. The well-educated exiles made an effort to educate the citizens of Chita and pursue trade. Through these efforts, the City became a major trading portal in Siberia, particularly since the natural resources of the area included timber, gold and uranium.

Architecturally, Chita is a clash of styles. Foremost, Chita is populated with communist concrete buildings. The apartment buildings are almost universally five stories tall and, frankly, not the most appealing things you’ve every scene. In contrast to these soviet signatures, Chita is also populated with individual homes made primarily out of wood. The homes are the equivalent of those you would see in any mountainous area and are very comfortable. Clashing with these two styles are a number of buildings in the center of Chita.

During World War II, a significant number of Japanese soldiers were taken by the Russians as prisoners of war. Through whatever machinations present at that time, they were put to work in the construction industry. Yep, you guessed it. In the center of Chita you will find buildings with a definite hint of Japanese style. The buildings are not overtly Japanese, but they definitely differ from the other styles present.

Having lived in the city for a year, I can definitely say it is worth a visit. The Trans-Siberian Railway passes through the city, so access is very easy.

The addition of custom wheels to your vehicle can make an enormous improvement in appearance in a car, truck or SUV. Not only do they often give you better handling and drivability but they drastically alter the look of any automobile which is why automotive enthusiasts have been replacing their factory wheels with custom wheels for years, getting rid of the ugly basic steel wheels and hubcaps on their vehicle to make their vehicle stand out and give a more comfortable ride.

There is a wide range of choices available from the after market custom wheel makers including chrome, aluminum, and alloy which have been available for a number of years. In recent years custom wheel manufacturers have began to offer colors such as silver along with bronze, gun metal, gold, anthracite, white, black and gray this allows one to color match the wheels to their vehicle. A very hot look is a black car with black wheels for a totally blacked out effect.

In the automotive industry the custom wheel segment is growing rapidly due to the popularity of installing custom wheels on cars, trucks, and SUVs. In addition shows like “Pimp My Ride” have given people the fever to improve the appearance of their own auto. With this in mind it is no wonder why custom painted and color matched wheels are rapidly becoming the leaders in the after market custom wheel industry. The types of auto enthusiast that seems most into these new wheels are drivers of the smaller import cars and trucks who really get into the act of changing the appearance of their rides. With the increased popularity of the new color matched wheels numerous manufacturers have began to offer them and some are even offering them in multiple colors such as having a color matched center with a chrome lip.

Matching the wheels to the exact color of the vehicle seems to be the hottest trend today. To accomplish this entire wheel is powder coated or painted to match the color of the vehicle. I really like this new customizing option; it really allows you to make your ride totally unique to any other like it on the road. If you are wondering where to find these custom wheels, it is really quite easy. All you have to do is go online and do a search for custom color matched wheels and find an online vendor or manufacturer you want to look at. Another option would be to just buy the basic silver and then have them custom painted locally, but I really don’t recommend this option unless you have a local shop with experience in the process. For the best results and quality stick with a company that has experience.

NORTH POLE- 5050 Pikes Peak Hwy., Cascade

For generations families have enjoyed this Christmas-themed amusement park at the base of Pikes Peak. The rides are appropriate for a variety of age groups, from an antique carousel and mini roller coaster to the Scrambler and Tilt-a-Whirl. We like the fact that they put rides for young children next to rides for older children (and adults). The lines are usually very short; oftentimes we have been there when there were no lines at all. Scattered throughout the village are shops and restaurants. There are goats to feed with feed from coin-operated dispensers. Moms and Dads will appreciate that they have hand sanitizer conveniently nearby. Be sure to visit Santa's House to visit with Santa and stop by the ever frozen North Pole. Mexico is a great place to visit. Although many are tourists, not everybody is a holiday maker. What are the top 7 reasons people visit Mexico? It might surprise you to realize that not everyone is going on vacation.

1. Vacation. Obviously people are visiting Mexico for a great vacation, with their family or friends or maybe alone.

2. Their cruise stops there. Mexico is a popular port of call for many cruise lines and it is included on many itineraries.

3. Business. Mexico has become somewhat of a business hub in recent years. The streets are paved with gold.

4. Health care. Mexico is much cheaper than the US for health care. Americans are flocking to Mexico for everything from laser eye surgery to heart bypasses in the hope of saving thousands of dollars.

5. Visit relatives. Many people have migrated across the American borders in the past but they still have relatives and loved ones in Mexico that they wish to visit for a couple of days or longer.

6. A night out. Thousands of students visit Tijuana every weekend. They simply walk across the border, have a few beers and then walk back home across the border. The 21 year old age limit doesn't apply in Mexico and the party scene in general is much more liberal than in the US.

7. Buy goods. Certain goods are much cheaper in Mexico and the border is within easy reach of some US states such as California. It is literally a day trip for some consumers.

Mexico is a fantastic place to visit but not everyone is there on vacation. The Mexican borders with the USA are some of the busiest in the world and it is easy to see why when there are so many reasons to visit.

While we are sure to believe there is mineral gold in the hills of California's "Gold County", the true value is located in the culture and history of the location. North Central California has 12 counties that make up the Gold Country. A majority of these counties are settled in the Sierra Nevada mountain range and are sprinkled with attractively old fashioned towns that have survived from the Gold Rush days.

On the 24th of January in 1848, James W. Marshall saw the glitter of metal in a drained area of Sutter's sawmill in what is present day Coloma, California, spawning the historic Gold Rush. The new territory of California's population boomed in 1849, increasing by 90,000. Prospectors came from virtually all over the globe dreaming of becoming rich instantly simply by pulling nuggets of gold from the ground. Actually, only a handful saw their vision of golden riches become a reality. The real winners of the Gold Rush were the companies that provided supplies and services to the prospectors.

Mining towns sprouted like weeds in a freshly plowed garden, and when the mine supporting them petered out, they became ghost towns just as quickly. Over 150 years later, there are still flourishing gold mining communities. A lot of these towns can be found along Highway 49 as it runs from Sierra City in Sierra County in the north to Oakhurst in Madera County in the south. The highway was dubbed "49" in the same way the prospectors were called "forty-niners," referring to the year the Gold Rush started.

The section of Highway 49 running from Sierra City to Oakhurst is approximately 260 miles, which means you should be able to drive it in about 6 hours. This would be incredibly unjust to the countryside's beauty as well as to the historic novelty of the communities, however. The Gold Country is an ideal location to vacation for the weekend.

Explore the architectural charm of communities like Nevada City, situated just 52 miles to the northeast of Sacramento. Included in its historic district are ninety-three buildings which are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Nevada City is thought to be one of the best preserved towns from the Gold Rush era. Grass Valley is a short distance away. It is a well preserved town from the gold rush era and includes the Empire Mine State Historic Park. This 784-acre state park offers a wealth of activities for those who want to spend the whole day exploring, viewing mining relics, and taking part in educational activities centered on California's hard rock mining industry.

Almost every Gold Rush town has a lot of grand Victorian homes, many of which now serve as Bed and Breakfast retreats. Historical markers abound and there are quite a few interesting museums to visit. However, the history is only one aspect of this fascinating land. The natural scenery is also stunning. For outdoor enthusiasts, there are a lot of activities available, such as fishing, hiking, and snow activities in winter at the higher elevations.

The Gold Country of California is a wonderful place to visit. Everyone will find something of interest to them here.

Every day you hear the nightmare on the evening news: “Another child abused by his babysitter” or “A child is abused at daycare.” It is so common that it has left many parents left to go to great lengths to protect their children from their very own babysitters.

A babysitter matchmaking service, called Sittercity, offers to help by offering background checks on their sitters. Will this help? Should you take advantage of this option?

Let’s be honest with ourselves. Not every person is as nice as they seem. While running a care companion company that focused on providing in-home care for the elderly, I received many good resumes from people who seemed extremely pleasant and were good candidates for employment. However, after running the mandatory background check, I found abuse allegations and one woman who even had assaulted her own mother! Do you think I now wanted to hire them to care for my elderly clients? No way!

You don’t want someone like that caring for your loved ones either. So go ahead and use Sittercity or other resources to find good candidates to fit your needs, but don’t skip the background check. That last step makes all the difference and, from my experience, it does make a difference. It will show everything from a traffic ticket to a felony.

Even if you are hiring a babysitter without a matchmaking service, there are online companies that specialize in the background checks for any type of employer. This would be well worth the investment as well.

So even if you meet a babysitting candidate for the first time and think that he or she is wonderful, make sure you spend time reading their online reviews and do not fail to take advantage of the background checks that they make available. This service is definitely worth your time. After all, you are protecting your most important things in life…your kids.

The biggest color show in the Smokies doesn't take place on New Year's Eve or the 4th of July or even at Christmas. In fact, this show is so big, it can't be squeezed into just one day. It takes weeks to reveal itself, a time during which millions of people revel in its glory and gain a deep appreciation for the spectacle of nature's beauty.

Of course, we're talking about the annual transformation of tree foliage, when leaves undergo a gradual transition from the greens of spring and summer to the vibrant reds, yellows and oranges of autumn. Part of what makes the fall foliage in the Smoky Mountains so memorable is the fact that some 100 species of trees can be found in the area, which results in the curvaceous landscape getting painted with a diverse color palette. Most of the trees are deciduous, which means that they, in fact, will lose their leaves each autumn.

This metamorphosis usually starts as early as middle September in the Smokies' higher elevations and reaches its peak at lower elevations between late October and early November. Around mid-September, you'll notice trees like the yellow birch, American beech, mountain maple, hobblebush and pin cherry starting to turn at around 4,000 feet in elevation.

By early October, you'll start to see sourwoods and sumac showing bright reds in the lower elevations, and some dogwoods and maples are starting to turn as well, although the landscape is still predominantly green at this point. In mid-October and early November, the colors are usually at their peak. The more vivid shades of red and gold emerge in the aforementioned trees as well as others like the blackgum, black walnut and hickory.

Did you know that trees actually inherit their autumn colors in the Smokies, much like a person inherits his or her hair color? Each color is determined by the presence of chemicals like iron, magnesium and phosphorus as well as their acidity levels. For example, the yellow in birch, beech and elm is caused by xanthophyll, while the reds and oranges in some oaks and maples are caused by anthocyanin and carotene, respectively.

Weather conditions also play a vital role in the transformation process. Warm, sunny days followed by cool, crisp (but not freezing) nights usually contribute to the best displays of color. Of course, no one can predict the weather, so there's no precise science to guessing exactly when the colors will reach their peak at different altitudes. As a result, some years yield better results than others.

If you're interested in timing your visit to the Smokies to coincide with peak colors, consider calling a local visitors bureau to get the latest information on the leaves. When you get here, there are several great routes that will let you take in lots of colorful vistas from your car, including segments of the Foothills Parkway, Newfound Gap Road, Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Even if your ultimate destination is Gatlinburg, Sevierville or Pigeon Forge, fall colors are sure to make your visit to the mountains a memorable one.

Are you a movie buff or someone who would kick their feet up and watch the latest animated movie? Either ways, you can be assured there is something for you in Walt Disney World in Florida. Plan a cheapest Disney World vacation to watch your favorite movie stars come alive in the theme park called Disney-MGM Studios, which is soon going to become Hollywood Studios.

Apart from this there is the Sorcerer's Hat created as a tribute to the famous Fantasia movie which is visible from the entrance of the park itself. This was the third park to be opened to public way back in 1989. With Hollywood movies as its inspiration, it contains within its walls, an array of entertainment and fun based on movies, television and musicals. If you view the Walt Disney World map, you will notice this theme park has various entertainment arenas within its walls, such as the Hollywood Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard, Mickey Avenue and many others.

Each of these is based on a Walt Disney movie and either shows the visitors how the movie was made or transports them into the sets of that movie. The only difference between this and the other parks is it does not have a fixed route, it is stretched and spread between the various streets and lanes, like in a studio.

If you are staying at one of the private rented villas, you can take a shuttle ride to the theme park and head straight to the star attraction of Animation Courtyard, where you see all Disney characters performing live on stage. Children are greeted by the Little Mermaid or the Bear takes them on a tour around the big house for some fun and singing with his friends Pooh, Piglet and Jojo. This is a perfect place for your children to sing along and have some fun with the characters and to kick start your vacation.

From here, you can move along to the Backlot tours as part of your affordable Disney vacation. Here, you get the opportunity to take one of the star tours, that will take your through the sets of Star Wars or other classic movies. You will also witness the Indiana Jones stunt display where actors enact scenes from the movie; if you are looking for some comedy, you will find it in the nearby 3D audio treat of Jim Carrey's Sounds Dangerous.

For some rush and thrilling action, head towards the Sunset Boulevard where you can enjoy the roller coasters which is built inside the building and takes off at a very high speed. Whereas in the Twilight zone of Terror, you will be on a ride that drops you in an elevator involving high speed crashes and raises. There will be additional interesting lighting and sounds playing to make it more fun and adventurous. Be-it the live entertainment or the rides, every inch of your Walt Disney World vacation will be jam packed and not a moment of it will be boring for you.

The Poniente Granadino is in the centre of Andalusia (Spain). It is located between the city of Malaga and the Costa del Sol on the one side and the city of Granada and the Sierra Nevada on the other one. Its strategic situation means that the traveler can visit several major historical centres of Andalusia in single day trips. The Poniente Granadino is weIl located to visit the highlights in Andalusia: Sevilla, Cordoba, Ronda, Sierra Nevada, the Alpujarras, Malaga, the Costa del Sol and of course, the city of Granada with the beautiful Arabian palaces and gardens of the Alhambra.

Mayor attractions

The cultural richness of Poniente Granadino is shown in the declaration of some historical towns by the Andalusian Autonomous Government: Loja, Alhama, Montefrio and Moclin. Alhama is a major spa, a paradise of vegetation and water with thermal springs that gush out at 47C. The therapeutic value of the waters was already well known by the Romans and the Arabs. A network of rivers and streams criss-crosses the region. Over the centuries they have eaten away at the rocks to form spectacular valleys and gorges like those in Alhama, Cacin, Montefrio, Loja and Moclin.

A touch of history

Poniente Granadino is known as 'The last Arabian frontier of Spain'. This slogan represents the important role that these towns and their people played during the final years of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada, the last Muslim presence in Spain. Remains of the Moorish civilization as well as archaeological vestiges that go back to paleolithic times, together with buildings made after the Christian conquer are split out through the landscape.

Activities

The region offers a wealth of outdoor activities. Donkey riding in Tajo de Alhama, trout fishing in Riofrio, off-road driving, pony-trekking and mountan-biking in the Sierra de Loja and the Natural Park of Sierra de Tejeda, Alhama and Almijara, hiking in Montefrio, gliding from the Cuesta de la Palma aerodrome in Loja or climbing in the 'Paso de la Burra' in Loja are just a few. The differences of altitude means vast array of different, breathtaking scenarios for the nature lover.

Cuisine

The history and tradition of the Poniente Granadino are reflected in its local dishes. Meat is an essential part of such well-known delights as 'choto al ajillo' or veal with garlic, a dish of fairly certain Moorish orgin, and pork stuffing and sausages. During the hunting season, partridge and rabbit form the basis of the dishes in the north of the region. In the centre of the region the two most outstanding specialities are the green-violet asparagus from Huetor-Tajar and trout from Riofrio. In the south of the region the traveler cannot afford to miss the delicious 'Olla jamena', eaten with wine produced in Alhama. Also highly appreciated are the sweetmeats produced by monasteries, featuring such mouth-watering delights as 'Roscos de San Anton' o, 'Bienmesabe', and the 'Rosco de Alhahud'.

New England is one of the most beautiful regions of the country. I have been there many times, mainly with my family. My parents used to rent a house up at Cape Cod every summer, where my sister and I would stay with them. I have also been to Boston many times. Some other fun places to visit in New England are the islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard as well as Acadia National Park in Maine.

Cape Cod is beautiful, especially in the fall when all the trees change color. I have never been there in the fall but I've been there many times in the summer with my family, when it's also quite pleasant. The cape runs about 30 miles north along the Atlantic coast and has some nice beaches. Provincetown is right on the tip of the cape. This is a fun town with lots of hip youngsters and some fun shops.

Boston is one of my favorite cities in the United States. I have been on the Freedom Trail twice, which passes by several important buildings pertaining to the American Revolution, including Fanneuil Hall, an old market, as well as the North Church, where Paul Revere began his famous ride. Fanneuil Hall contains Durgin Park, one of my favorite restaurants, with superb prime rib as well as some exquisite clam chowder.

A trip to New England would not be complete without visiting Maine. I was in Maine with my family for a week and ate lobster every day. Lobster is so cheap in Maine that you see hamburger stands which also sell lobster. Acadia National Park is a beautiful spot in Maine, well worth the trip up there.

The areas of Alaska and Yukon are famous for their many Gold Rushes. From 1880 until 1915, there occurred more than 50 gold rushes. The largest and the most significant Gold Rush in the history was the Gold Rush in the Klondike in 1896. On August 16, 1896, in Bonanza (Rabbit) Creek were discovered rich gold deposits by three men that were led by Skookum Jim Mason. The news spread rapidly and reached the United States in July 1897. In spite of an economic depression that raged in the United States and that taught humbleness and economy to many thousands of depressed people, many became gold sick. Many businesses were stopped, real estates and farms were sold and the money was used to get to the north - to the Klondike. Only a few found any gold in the Klondike, but others penniless, yet full of adventures went back home as the gold rush calmed down around 1900. In this Gold Rush, the biggest profit (several million dollars) was made by Seattle merchants that provided transporting services to gold seekers from Seattle to Nome from 1897 to 1899.

The gold seekers that preferred to go to Alaska through Canada were allowed to enter with only one condition - that they bring provisions for one year with them. So they took many trips and carried all that they needed. Many of them died on the Chilkoot Trail, without even - having seen the Klondike. This trail was build by the Tlingit people as a trade route and became very popular during the gold rush period. Many gold seekers lost their lives in avalanches that struck on April 3, 1998.

The vast majority of the gold seekers stayed, whether in Skagway, or whether in Dyea. Before the Gold Rush Dyea was a small settlement that was build by natives and was used as a fishing camp - a real abandoned place in the middle of the woods. But everything changed in the winter of 1897, when thousands of gold seekers came in Dyea. During the peak of the Gold Rush, more than 150 businesses including 48 hotels and 2 hospitals were established. As soon as the gold rush was over, the Dyea post office was shut down due to its inactiveness in 1902. And if we visit Dyea today, all we can see is a thriving forest growing over the ghosts of burned down buildings.

While Dyea remains a ghost town, Skagway has kept its old time atmosphere - everything has been saved the way it was back in 1898. Skagway has opened the Klondike Gold Rush National Park that gives the feeling that the events happened yesterday.

The Klondike has not provided everyone with wealth. Gold rushers like Jack London, Big Mike Heney and Wyatt Earp gained worldwide fame thanks to spending their time in the Klondike. Jack London wrote his best books like "White fang" during time spent in the Klondike during the rush. Wyatt Earp spent several years in Nome during the Gold Rush in late 1890s and was digging gold in several places around Klondike until his death. Michael James Heney - also known as Big Mike Heney - built two railroads - the White Pass and Yukon Route and the Copper River and Northwestern - without having any technical knowledge. He was admired at that time by leading engineers who considered his work to be impossible.

These are some tips that will help your transit with your loved one safe, easier, comfortable and eventful.

* Look up for a limo service that has been in the business for at least 10-15 years and check for their references and testimonials by their regular clients. This ensures their reliability, credibility and quality of service.

* When hiring a limo a physical examination of the limo should carried out, this helps you in knowing the seating capacity of the limo, so that you can accommodate the guests accordingly, plus you know which make and model of the limo you are paying for.

Make sure that the chauffeur is dressed elegantly and respects your clients, has no drinking or smoking habit. Not at least in the work timings. DC Limousine Service.

* Visit the company yourself before hiring them.

* Tip the driver. Extra money will instigate them to serve you and your loved ones better.

These tips come in handy when you are in search of a good limo service.

For every sixteen-year-old in Britain, their school prom is the biggest social event in life. The prom season normally starts during summer. School proms are a tradition passed on from the United States. It is in vogue there since the 1900's. In Britain, this tradition took off in the last decade or so. "Prom" takes its form from the word "Promenade", which means group of guests gathered officially at a formal ball. In north-east America, the early proms were meant to introduce to the youngsters the traditions and values of social etiquette.

Proms gathered pace in the 1920's and 1930's. By the 1950's, high school proms in America had become competitive and expensive, boys and girls competing with each other to be and be paired with the best prom date. The teen movies that came about thirty years later made these American proms a cult, the ultimate social event of coming-of-age, as it remains till today.

Around the same time, America started with the stretch limos once they became popular, thanks to the movie industry in the 1930's. These came to be used a lot by school kids who wanted to go for their proms in ultimate style. Thus, the prom limos became a huge and profitable business in America. The kids in the UK were only happy to embrace this idea of prom limos from their counterparts in the United States. They loved this idea so much that limos were difficult to find around this period. People who could find prom limos at the end of June were indeed lucky.

Due to the high demand for prom limos, they are rarely given on discount. Hence, parents who want to hire them should make sure that they get good value for money. Best solution would be to fill up the limo with as many people as possible and split up the hire in as many ways. Prom limos that are eight seaters normally cost £400 for an evening. So if you can find eight people, the cost would be split to £50 each, which is much better than four people paying £100.

You might think that you can cut down the cost of the limo hire by hiring it one way to the school. You can, but you are still liable to pay all the set up cost like cleaning, preparation, minimum chauffeur charges and, last but not the least, the cost of running such an expensive car. All these might come up to £300. It might be a pleasant surprise to you that the whole evening's hire might come up to only £75 or £100 more than the one way hire. Although this could be more money, it saves the parents from having to collect their kids from the school after the prom, which is not very ideal for both the parents and the kids. Plus, it makes a perfect close of the day with the kids returning in a prom limo from which they didn't want to get out in the first place!

If you still want or need only a one way hire, you can manage to get some additional value by requesting for an extra half an hour cruise around the city before you reach the school. This can be made fun if the kids bring their own music mixes, spot people out of the limo or interact with other prom limos, making a cruising circuit. This can also ensure that the kids are dropped at the school exactly at the right time, getting off from the prom limos with everybody watching them.

Another tip that you can remember is that everybody can gather at one place to start their journey to school. This way they can have snaps taken together, and it can also give time for the parents also for their own little party. This moment can be a little emotional for the parents also who are seeing their kids looking grown up for the first time. And it is also a good way for the kids to give something back to their parents to thank them for all they have done and paid to make the evening special and unforgettable for their children. Another advantage for this is that it avoids many last minute hitches and makes everybody be on time. It also saves the prom limos from running all over the place collecting all the kids, stopping and restarting, which can use up a lot of valuable cruising time and, needless to say, much precious fuel.

Another thing you need to keep in mind is that while hiring the prom limo, it is better to have a detailed conversation with your limo operator. This will help you to find whether he is fully licensed as well as whether you are getting the service and the limo you paid for. Nowadays, limo companies try bringing out the limos is many different shapes, sizes and colors ranging from the eight seater Lincoln Town Car limos and baby Bentley limos (which are actually Chrysler 300's but look like stretched Bentleys) to the larger Ford Expedition and Excursion limos as well as the extremely popular Hummer limos.

Keep in mind the fact that you might not be lucky enough to get a limo in the busy prom limo season. In case you don't find one, think laterally. Girls can think of one of those fire engine limos manned by some good looking firemen. And for boys, there is that awesome tank limos! Check with your parents whether they can find someone who has a really cool vehicle to take you to your much-awaited prom. An American classic car like a Chevrolet or Dodge Truck or even a Ferrari or Lamborghini can be good choices. And if you are lucky enough to find a prom limo during the season, make your move quickly before someone else take away your dream car.
