The Phillip Island Penguin Parade
Why not take a visit to Phillip Island just off the coast of Melbourne where at dusk you will see the majestic parade of penguins. The Phillip Island Penguin Parade is a joy to behold, and is one of the major natural attractions to be seen on the Australian continent. As they march in groups to their homes in the dunes after a day in the water, you will see them day after day strut over the sands of Summerland Beach. The parade takes place every day just before sunset and it is just fantastic to see this wonderful colony of creatures. Phillip Island is approximately two hours from Melbourne.
The Gold Coast
Gold Coast in Queensland (south of Brisbane) is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Australia. Enjoy miles of golden sandy beaches all along the eastern Queensland coast, on the Pacific Ocean shoreline. There are many attractions to be found here from the Q1 building to the exciting Theme Parks at Sea World and Wet "N" Wild Waterworld to name but a few.
Great Barrier Reef
It's true that one of the wonders of the land down under is the Great Barrier Reef. As the largest coral reef in the world, it is a destination that is favoured by many scuba divers, and those who like to explore the world underwater! The Great Barrier Reef is 2000 km in length and basically is a selection of exciting and marine life rich reefs running south from the Capricorn Tropic to Torres Strait. A great way to explore the beauty of the cruise is to take a few cruises along the reef formations and have the opportunity to dive in and explore the spectacular formations. If you are not too fond of diving underwater, you could also take a cruise in a glass bottomed boat or even a submarine!
The Great Ocean Road and the Twelve Apostles
One of the most scenic drives in the world is located 100km to the south west of Melbourne, along the Victoria coast. The Great Ocean Road was laid as a tribute to the slain Australian troops in World War I, and it stretches for over 270km. The most astounding attraction you will see along the route (and there are some wonderful sights) are the Twelve Apostles. There are a collection of huge limestone rock formations that stand along the beach between the touristy towns of Princetown and Campbell, and the waves crashing against them with a backdrop of blue skies is an enduring image waiting to be discovered.
Ayers Rock (Uluru) One of the national icons of Australia, this is large sandstone rock formation that is located in the south of the Northern Territory in Central Australia, in an area 300 miles south west of Alice Springs. The region is totally sacred in Aboriginal mythology and it contains many springs, rock paintings, caves and waterholes. Ayers Rock and the Mount Olga (Kata Tjuta) represent a portion of the Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park that is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
